Olio was started by Tessa and Saasha in 2015 with the simple idea of developing an App that enabled people to share unwanted food with someone else that needs it. Olio connects neighbours and businesses to facilitate the sharing of surplus food, such as food nearing its sell by date in local stores, spare home grown vegetables and groceries that will pass their sell by date during holidays. Over $1 trillion of food is wasted annually, representing 33-50% of all food produced.  In the UK an average family throws away 22% of their weekly shop. Meanwhile over 800 million people are either malnourished or starving. Olio is just one small way to try to reduce this wastage and imbalance.  It's very easy to get involved, simply open the App, add a photo and description of the food that is available and where the item is available for pick up. To access items, simply browse the listings available near you, request whatever takes your fancy and arrange a pick-up via private messaging.  Olio have the ambition for 1 billion users within 10 years and we wish them well with a great idea.
